Mr. Hayes was born in Boxelder, Texas to the late Norman and Gladys Dillard Hayes.  He was reared in Annona, Texas where he attended school.

In the late 1950’s, Mr. Hayes moved to Amarillo where as a young man he worked as an Auto Mechanic/Technician.  He met and later married the late Eva Mae Taylor Hayes and for 35 years reared a family of nine children of which three preceded him in death (Glenn C. Ever devoted to his family, Mr. Hayes left Amarillo City Transit and returned to Annona, Texas to assist with caring for his mother until her passing.  After returning to Amarillo, he re-employed with Amarillo City Transit where he met Eve Barrett.  Mr. Hayes and Ms. Barrett married in June 2002 and shared a loving home with their daughter and lots of Papa Joe time with youngest grandchildren Jacoby, Jack and Harper until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his three children and two brothers, Charlie D. Hayes and Joe W. Hayes.

Cherishing his memory of the home, are his wife Eve Hayes, daughters Isabel Hayes and Judith Barrett and son, Marshall Barrett.  His children, daughters Tracy Y.
