Marvin Alphonzo Lassiter, 80, of Amarillo, TX, died on December 30, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Lassiter was born on May 15, 1936, in Selma, North Carolina, to John and Miley Lassiter.
He attended Harrison High School in Selma, North Carolina where he played football. He continued his education at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina and North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from Shaw University. On December 12, 1958, Mr. Lassiter was inducted into the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Mr. Lassiter was a hard-working man who was well respected by everyone. He enjoyed photography, informational technology, bowling, and traveling. His family was his greatest joy, and he was loved dearly by all of us.
Mr. Lassiter taught mathematics at the Henderson Institute in Henderson, North Carolina, Lincoln High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and Milor High School in Rialto, California. He retired from Rialto Unified School District after teaching there for 30 years. Mr. Marvin Lassiter then became a substitute teacher in Amarillo, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Miley Lassiter, four sisters, and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Lassiter, daughter, Sharon Morris, daughter Marcia Hayes (husband William Rodney Hayes), son William Johnson, daughter Carolyn Lassiter, son Marvin Lassiter, Jr., grandchildren, Heather Morris, Courtney Lassiter, Lauren Morris, Elijah Harris, William Hayes, Janelle Parker, Carl Parker Jr., and great granddaughter Haviliyah Kay.
